So listen, gender roles can be a touchy issue in many ways these days. I don’t particularly like being held to any standard that doesn’t reflect 100% what I want to do in any given moment, and I dislike hierarchy as a general rule of thumb. But yet, I find myself very much enjoying the reversal of gender roles, which is a roundabout way of kinda also perpetuating them…? Right? But here’s where things get really fun for me- I love reversing the gender roles as a means of deconstructing them. “Slipping my sweet subbies into a pretty pair of panties and a cute little maid’s outfit and send them to the kitchen to make me a sammich” level of deconstructing gender roles can be really exciting to play with, with the added bonus of having a real-world effect of shifting these cultural norms. So, whereas perpetuating gender roles can be a negative, using the inverse of those gender roles to challenge the cultural norms can absolutely wreak havoc on the system. And let’s face it- I thrive with a bit of chaos and mischief making.
It was with that in mind that I figured we could take a little gender roles test to see if what I already suspected would be reflected. You see, I know my fucking community, my loves! I know that the femdom I roll with are some of the fiercest, most powerful women I know and that they take pride in circumventing expectations, especially as it relates to gender. I know that my audience has some of the sweetest little sissy girls and femmes and sweet little submissives, people who regularly engage in gender bending activities. It’s always a bit amusing to see what activities and behaviors were linked to which gender, and the Gender Roles Test we used provided endless amusement. But you don’t have to listen to me talk about it, take a listen to the real deal for yourself:
As you heard, most of us ended up being more masculine leaning, which in some ways was a reflection on the way the answers were presented. I know that I read several of the answers and labeled them as “the bitch response”, cause you have to be a little bitch to fawn that hard.
But listen, all joking aside, I am a very sincere believer that the work we do in the context of our sexuality and gender is essential in becoming an entire, actualized, whole human being. I think that consciously and intentionally playing with gender is a very healthy, natural activity that brings hidden and repressed parts of us forward. I am infatuated with the unconscious and with shining light onto the deep, dark waters of our minds. I recently did a podcast episode on KINKology: the psychology of kink called “Anima & Animus” that discussed the gender bending archetypes that are present in the unconscious of men and women. It sheds some light on using our experience with gender to reveal the hidden and repressed parts of us that we gave up in order to achieve society’s fickle approval and would be well worth a listen to bring great depth to this topic.
I encourage you, all of you, to explore the full expression of both masculine and feminine that we all have access to within our body. Society has placed rigid, unrealistic and sometimes punishing gender expectations in place that are harmful to many, and its time they come down. You do not have to be transgender to do your part to deconstruct these punishing gendered expectations, and as a bonus, you get to know yourself more fully. Downside? Never heard of her. And as always, hit me up at becky@enchantrixempire.com if you ever want to explore this on a more intimate level. XOXO
